Why ADA Signage is Necessary for Your Business!

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was signed into law on July 26th, 1990, created to protect people with disabilities from discrimination. An equal opportunity law for people with disabilities, meaning everyone should receive the same treatment despite differences, according to Ada.gov.

There are requirements that businesses must follow to verify everyone can communicate, receive and convey information effectively. This includes everything from accessible parking and water fountains to correct signs in buildings. All important because they bring inclusivity and accessibility to people who communicate differently due to vision, hearing, or speech disabilities. While not everyone can read braille, it is required to include on signs designating permanent rooms and spaces, such as restrooms and exit signs, according to Title II Technical Assistance Manual (II-6.3200 Elements).
