Coil Binding

What it is: Also known as Spiral Binding. A single plastic coil wound through holes punched into the pages. It allows the book to open flat with 360-degree rotation.

Best for: Specifications, manuals, cookbooks, journals/notebooks.

Page count: 425 page maximum.

GBC Comb Binding

What it is: A method of securing pages using a piece of plastic (the spine) with “teeth” (the comb) that fit into rectangular holes in the paper, the book lies flat, but does not open 360-degrees.

Best for: Specifications, reports, and manuals.

Page count: 425 sheets maximum.

Twin Loop Binding

What it is: Also known as Wire-O Binding. A metal C shaped spine is inserted into punched holes and then squeezed together until the spine is round. This type of binding allows the book to open flat and offers a 360-degree rotation.

Best for: Journals, manuals, presentation books.

Page count: 80 sheets maximum.

Saddle Stitch Binding

What it is: Multiple sheets of paper with two staples applied at the fold. One sheet represents four pages in the book. Exterior spine of book can be a rounded or square edge finish.

Best for: Booklets, comics, magazines, etc.

Page count: 8 page min (2 sheets), 60 page max (15 sheets).

Screw Post Binding

What it is: Also known as Chicago Screw. Holes are drilled through pages and book is bolted together. For drawing sets, a plastic strip is placed on each side of set.

Best for: Technical documents, art & photo books.

Page count: Unlimited, but will become heavy and unmanageable if too large.

Paper Edge Binding

What it is: Also known as Peep Squirrel. Folded paper is applied to the binding edge of drawing sets with staples.

Best for: Technical drawing sets.

Page count: 200 sheets maximum.

Perfect Binding

What it is: Multiple sheets of paper with a cover made from heavier stock, glued together at the spine. Once glue has cured for 24 hours, the books are then trimmed for a clean finish.

Best for: Books, catalogs, & magazines.

Page count: 350 sheets maximum.
